Reader list
If you join my reader list, I collect your email address and your first name, if you choose to provide it.
I use this information to send occasional emails about new stories and books, works in progress, and some of the ideas behind my fiction.
The reader list uses a double opt-in process. After submitting the signup form, you will receive an email asking you to confirm that you wish to join.
Mailchimp may also record information connected with your signup and emails, such as the date and time of signup, IP address, and information about email delivery or engagement. This helps operate the mailing list and maintain a record of consent.
Contacting me
If you contact me by email, I will receive your email address and any other information you choose to include in your message. I will use that information only as necessary to respond to you and deal with your enquiry.
Technical information
Like most websites, this website and its hosting services may process limited technical information required to operate and secure the site, such as IP addresses, browser information, server logs and access times.
Why I use your information
For the reader list, I rely on your consent. You choose to join the list and confirm that choice before receiving emails.
You can withdraw that consent at any time by using the unsubscribe link included in every mailing.
Where you contact me directly, I may use your information where it is necessary for my legitimate interests in responding to correspondence and managing my work as an author.
Mailchimp
I use Mailchimp, operated by Intuit, to manage my reader list and send emails.
When you join the reader list, your information is processed through Mailchimp on my behalf.
Mailchimp may process personal information in the United States and other countries and provides contractual safeguards for international transfers of personal data.

How long I keep information
If you join my reader list, I will normally keep your details for as long as you remain subscribed.
If you unsubscribe, Mailchimp may retain limited information on a suppression list so that your request not to receive further emails can be respected.
If you contact me directly, I will keep correspondence only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was received, or where I need to retain it for legitimate administrative or legal reasons.
Who I share information with
I do not sell or rent your personal information.
I may share or allow access to information only where necessary for services used to operate the website and reader list, including Mailchimp, website hosting and technical service providers.
I may also disclose information where required to do so by law.
Cookies
This website may use cookies or similar technologies that are necessary for the site to function securely and correctly.
I do not use personal information collected through the reader list for third-party advertising.
If I introduce non-essential analytics, advertising or other tracking technologies in the future, I will update this policy and obtain consent where required.
